A bit about us

Built for large-scale projects. Run by founders.

WSD was founded in 2021 by Stuart Dodson, Ben South and Luke Wellings, three engineers with over forty combined years in the fire and electrical industry. We started WSD because we wanted to do this work the way it should be done: with the people who actually deliver projects still close enough to every decision to take responsibility for it.

Years on, that’s still the standard. Our directors are still on the tools when it matters. Every project we deliver is staffed by our own engineers, with no subcontractors and no commercial layer between you and the people doing the work.

From fire alarm installation and emergency lighting testing to trace heating, gas suppression and linear heat detection, WSD covers the full range of commercial fire safety and electrical disciplines from a single, in-house team

Our services

Detection. Suppression. Electrical. All under one roof.

We deliver an array of distinct fire safety and electrical disciplines, all in-house. That means a single contractor for the whole fire safety strategy on your building, rather than multiple specialists you have to coordinate.

How We Work

What you can expect. Every project, every job.

What you can expect from every WSD project, start to finish.

All In-House

Every WSD project is delivered by our own engineers. No subcontractors, no agency crews, no missed accountability.

All Specialisms

One contractor across detection, suppression, electrical and maintenance. Not four specialists for you to coordinate.

Founder Led

Stuart, Ben and Luke stay close enough to every project to take direct responsibility. Quote through to handover.

Clear Reporting

Time-stamped, photographed, written so a non-specialist can read it. No copy-pasted standard quotations or jargon.

Where We Work

Sectors we work in, across the UK.

WSD’s work spans the UK commercial, industrial and public-sector landscape. We deliver fire and electrical projects in data centres and critical infrastructure, commercial offices and multi-tenant developments, residential apartment blocks and build-to-rent, hotels, leisure and hospitality, and healthcare and care facilities.

We also work across schools, colleges and education campuses, industrial and manufacturing facilities, warehouses and logistics centres, retail and mixed-use developments, heritage, museum and listed buildings, and public-sector infrastructure. Different sectors carry different risk profiles, regulatory requirements and operational constraints, and we design and deliver accordingly.

FAQs

Common questions, straight answers.

The questions that come up most often. For anything not covered below, get in touch. What clients usually ask us before getting started.

What size of project do you take on?

Anything from a single-panel fire alarm install in a small commercial unit through to a multi-floor refit across a live multi-tenant building. Most of our work runs from focused fire alarm and emergency lighting packages up to six-figure suppression and pump room schemes for main contractors and M&E consultants.

Are you accredited?

Yes. WSD holds BAFE (SP203-1), NICEIC, FIA, BSI and SafeContractor accreditations. Insurance: £5m public liability, £10m employers’ liability, £1m professional indemnity, £5m product liability. Certificates available on request.

How do I get a quote?

Email [email protected] or call 01527 387 918 during office hours. We’ll talk through what you need, arrange a site visit if useful, and quote against the actual scope. No menu of upsells, no commitment until you’ve seen the proposal.

What’s the difference between maintenance and reactive work?

Maintenance is the scheduled, planned servicing in your contract — quarterly visits, annual full tests, certification and the rest.

Reactive work is anything that arises between visits: a fault, an alarm, a callout. Reactive work for contract clients is prioritised and typically billed at a contract rate. Reactive work for non-contract clients is available case-by-case at standard rates.

Do you cover the whole UK?

Yes, we deliver maintenance contracts and projects nationally from our Bromsgrove HQ. Most of mainland Britain is within a routine response window for reactive maintenance work.

Sites further from the Midlands may have slightly longer response windows for reactive call-outs; we can provide a map of typical response times by area during the initial survey if it’s relevant to your site.

Can you take over an existing system installed by someone else?

Yes. We routinely take over the maintenance of systems originally installed by someone else.

We carry out an initial survey and full functional test of the existing system first, give you a written baseline of what’s there and what condition it’s in, then quote against bringing it onto an ongoing maintenance contract. The survey is quoted separately to the contract, so there’s no commitment until you’ve seen the findings.

How quickly can you respond to a callout?

For clients on a maintenance contract, reactive call-outs are prioritised and attended within agreed response windows during office hours (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday). For ad-hoc call-outs without a contract, we attend as soon as our schedule allows, typically same-week for non-critical work.

WSD doesn’t operate a 24/7 emergency response. For sites that need round-the-clock cover we’re upfront about that and can point you to providers who specialise in it.
